About the Role

We’re seeking an energetic and skilled veterinarian with equine and large animal experience who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You’ll manage a varied caseload, welcoming domestic patients through public surrenders, RSPCA animal ambulances, our proactive Community Outreach program, the Inspectorate, and internal transfers from regional shelters.

As part of our veterinary clinic and surgery team, you’ll collaborate with passionate professionals to deliver high-quality medical and surgical care, support staff training, and improve welfare outcomes for every patient. Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical and surgical care to all animals presented to the clinic, including equines.

• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for every patient.

• Ensure effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

• Support good welfare outcomes for each and every patient.

• Lead by example and uphold the values of RSPCA Qld among veterinarians, nurses, and clinic assistants.

• Assist with the training and mentoring of other veterinary staff (desirable).

• Participate in approved research projects as directed by the Head Scientist.

• Attend veterinary team and general staff meetings regularly.

• Represent RSPCA Qld at community events, activation days, and fundraising initiatives.

About You

• Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or Australian recognised equivalent).

• 5+ years’ surgical, emergency, and critical care experience with companion animals; equine experience required.

• Previous animal welfare experience is an asset but not essential.

• Experience training, mentoring, or coaching other staff is desirable.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including willingness to appear in media broadcasts and as a professional witness in court.

• Proven ability to multitask and work under pressure in a high-volume hospital environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.

• Excellent relationship-building, organisational, and time management skills.

• Flexibility, adaptability, and a pragmatic approach to veterinary medicine.

• Genuine interest in animal welfare and the objectives of RSPCA Qld.

• Physically capable of manual handling, including lifting animals up to 10kg.
